Dr. Smadar Ben Asher is an expert in educational psychology and a researcher in the area of social representation of minority groups fighting for their place in Israeli society within the public discourse.
Her doctoral thesis deals with the internal dialog of a minority group (the Kibbutz society) performed in functional patterns intended to preserve the group through conflict.
Additional research dealt with the parents of commando soldiers fighting their sons' fight in against the health threat posed by diving in the polluted Kishon river; with the coping methods of settlers evacuated from Gaza before and after the evacuation; with the Bedouin consultants blazing their professional trails in a tradition based society; and with the liberal and republican streams in Israeli society and their attitudes towards the role of IDF widows in the preservation of national myths.
