Mandel Leadership Institute Programs

Mandel Jerusalem Fellows

Mandel Jerusalem Fellows (MJF) in Jewish Education targets exceptional individuals with proven abilities in Jewish educational and communal leadership, and provides a formative learning and professional development through study with top scholars, policymakers and practitioners from around the world.
Over the course of the one-year, residential fellowship, participants reflect on their professional practice, challenging both their personal goals and the current methods of contemporary Jewish education and communal engagement. Fellows exit the program with a fully developed and compelling vision for the next phase of their careers, along with a strategic plan of how to implement their ideas.

Mandel School for Educational Leadership

The Mandel School for Educational Leadership (MSEL) trains Israeli professionals to articulate and develop their individual visions for social and educational change.
The two-year full-time fellowship draws inspiration from the great works of western and Jewish civilization, while placing vision at the center of professional development.
MSEL Fellows learn to translate theories into practice and acquire the skills needed to implement creative solutions to the challenges of society.

Our fellows go on to establish and lead institutions fuelled by their renewed perspectives.
Of the 250 fellows who have participated in the program since its inception in 1992, many presently hold key roles in government ministries, local councils and social and educational organizations. Others have gone on to establish and lead schools and other initiatives in the field of education.

Mandel IDF Educational Leadership Development Program

The IDF Educational Leadership Development Program is a unique in-service program, designed to enhance the professional identity of IDF officers and commanders. The goal of the program is to embed the notion of the "educating commander" and to imbue military officers with social sensitivity, by increasing awareness of the relationship between army, education and Israeli society.
The yearlong program includes lectures, group discussions, personal instruction, site visits, and meetings with prominent academic, governmental, and military figures.  In the course of the program, fellows are required to prepare a project that impacts their actual work and military assignments.

Mandel Graduate Unit

The Mandel Graduate Unit assists Mandel graduates to facilitate change in Israeli society and Jewish communities worldwide. The Graduate Unit continues to support Mandel graduates when they return to their professional settings, enabling them to follow through on the goals they shaped while attending the Mandel Leadership Institute. The Mandel Graduate Unit fosters the strengthening and deepening of the network of graduates by maintaining dialogue and initiating professional conferences, joint initiatives and mutual learning communities.

The Visions Unit

The Visions Unit develops contents and methods that deepen the Mandel Leadership Institute’s expertise in the training of vision-guided educational leadership and enhance the effectiveness of its programs.  Development efforts are based on a range of activities, including collaboration with prominent thinkers in formulating new ideas, constructing demonstration sites in the field, experimental training initiatives, publication of materials, and the establishment of an online resource center. The products of these activities are disseminated to educational leaders in Israel and in Jewish communities around the world and are incorporated into the work of MLI’s training programs.
