Green explores the explosion of interest in spirituality, in general culture as well as in the burgeoning renewal movement within Judaism at the end of the 1990s. He considers whether spirituality, in a specifically Jewish sense, will address the needs of future Jewish communities. There is a feeling in the contemporary world, writes Green, “that we need to be rescued by…some deeply rooted wisdom attuned more closely to the moral and spiritual needs of a much battered mankind.”
