Youth Philanthropy and Service Announces 13th Annual Workshop at Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations

Youth Philanthropy and Service (YPS), a program of the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, will host its 13th Annual Workshop on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. The Annual Workshop, the premier service of YPS, is designed for K-12 youth, K-12 school staff, and youth development professionals who would like to learn more about service-learning and youth philanthropy, strengthen their current service-learning project, or engage in a more extensive project. It is a daylong event consisting of a keynote speaker, breakout sessions, and a networking lunch with exhibits. Since 1997, the Annual Workshop has hosted a wide variety of local and national keynote speakers. Since 2004, attendance has averaged around 250.

This year's keynote speaker will be Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Programs Director for the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization founded in 1993 by Cesar's family and friends to educate people about his life and work and to engage all, particularly youth, to carry on his values and timeless vision for a better, more just world.

In addition to the Annual Workshop, in partnership with Facing History and Ourselves (FHAO), the Mandel Center is presenting a free public forum with Julie Chavez Rodriguez the evening of February 11. Her presentation, Perfect Participation: The Legacy of Cesar E. Chavez Today and Tomorrow, will focus on her grandfather's legacy, the values which embodied his work and their implications in today's society, and how each one of us can make a difference.
